Dead Rising is an open-world action horror game developed by Capcom. The game is set in a fictional town of Willamette, where the protagonist, Frank West, sneaks into the town to investigate the reason behind the National Guard's sealing. Upon landing on the roof of a big shopping mall, Frank discovers a massive zombie outbreak and a threat of nationwide infestation.
As a player, you will have to explore the shopping mall while fending off zombies to complete missions. The game offers more than 250 items that can be used as weapons, ranging from low to high damage. Some of the weapons have environmental properties and can be heated on open fire. All weapons can be used a limited amount of times, which encourages players to explore and search for random encounters.
Dead Rising also uses RPG elements, where players earn Prestige Points that can be spent to improve skills and attributes. Frank has a camera that can be used to take pictures, which are rated and scored, and their score is converted into Prestige Points. The game offers struggling survivors that need saving and "psychopaths" that act as mini-bosses.
